I would argue that 21st-century Christians have the need to persevere as much as those 1st-century Hebrews. There is a lot of false doctrine out there that gives us freedom to relax and love the world rather than exhorting one another daily to prevent the hardening of the heart (Heb. 3:13). On the other hand, I think we have plenty of ways to do that besides meeting face to face. Phone calls, texts, facetime, social media, etc. are all options that no 1st-century believer had. On top of that, the purpose of assembling together, according to Hebrews 10:24-25 is to provoke one another to love and good works and to exhort one another. Most people who say we must assemble sit in a pew rather than provoking to love and good works or exhorting, so they're not really assembling in the sense of Hebrews 10:24-25 anyway.
