Jesus, Josh Johnson, and Comedy as Coping
What do you do to get through?
Today, the United States government took one step closer to premeditated policy murder, another Christian leader came out hard for Christian Zionism, and I am fearful of the confrontations with law enforcement as 500,000 Haitian Americans just lost their legal status. My anxiety is increasing as I anticipate Black people being chased by masked law enforcement who refuse to identify themselves. Lord have mercy.
Enter comedian and Daily Show Correspondent, Josh Johnson. Every Tuesday night after my kids go down and I am cleaning up, I watch. On a Wednesday night, when I need to slow down and decompress, I watch. If the week was too busy and I check YouTube and realize I missed a new drop, I watch. He is clever, consistent, thoughtful and deep in ways that I don’t expect and always look forward to.
Yesterday, I talked about being filled and looking forward to spending time with God in community. I hope to one day delight with that community as well. Laughing together, I believe in my bones is good for the soul. I hope you drop a link to research that backs that up!
