Proverbs 11:29 isn’t that hard to understand if you read it through a lens of wisdom. Like so many of the proverbs, it carries within a universal principle.
He who brings trouble on his house will inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
“Trouble” can be reference to any of things. Essentially, it’s referring to those who dishonor their family through their behavior. That can be through financial missteps, sowing discord among others, or anything that draws undue negative attention to the family. That kind of behavior—the kind you read about in dramatic novels—leads to an inheritance of “the wind.”
What can the wind do? It can’t feed you. It can clothe you. It can’t shelter you. About all it can do is cool you down on a hot day, but that won’t make you grow old.
Ultimately, foolish behavior leads to slavery. The fool will serve the wise. Christian or not, you can’t escape that truth.
Are you living wisely for the Lord, honoring your parents along the way?
