Shane Claiborne got arrested yesterday in Washington DC as President Trump pushes for tax cuts for the wealthiest people and companies at the expense of healthcare, food, and essential resources for the poorest people in our country.

William J. Barber, II
,
Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove
and their coalition were arrested because they opposed the largest military budget in our country’s history in exchange for what will be millions of people losing their healthcare and their lives.

Nearly 20 years ago, Shane asked me to write a poem and I did. It was called, “Jesus for President”, like the book that he and Chris Haw had written at the time. The questions then are the same questions now. Sin – especially institutionalized political violence – is frustratingly consistent. Fortunately, the love of God is stubborn and unending. And in Jesus’ name, His love will ultimately win out. May it be so… and soon.

Here’s the poem, “Jesus for President”.
